Founded in 1955, the Westport-Weston Cooperative Nursery School offers a progressive, quality early education experience that views the young child’s learning as a journey rather than a destination. The preschool’s mission is influenced by the Bank Street approach through its program leadership. This approach recognizes that children learn best when they are actively engaged with materials, ideas and with people. The Co-op experience encourages children to be curious, to ask questions, to explore all possibilities and to love learning.
Children’s development is fostered in the broadest sense. Diverse opportunities are provided for physical, emotional, cognitive and social growth. Children are encouraged to respect and tolerate human differences and work together as members of a caring community.

The Co-op's approach begins with sound developmental principles, understanding that children do not all learn in the same way or at the same pace.
