Welcome

We believe that play is children’s work. Young children learn through hands-on experience and participation.  We provide opportunities for children to select, explore, and practice various skills through a variety of materials and prepared activities. Children use play to make sense of their world.  What may look like “playing” to an adult is actually learning in progress.  While playing, children become motivated and engaged in their chosen activities. Through play your child will develop problem-solving skills, social and communication skills as well as literacy and early numeracy.

Each team of teachers is responsible for developing classroom goals and implementing them through activities in the classroom. These goals address cognitive, physical, social, and emotional developmental growth. The State of Connecticut Benchmarks for Early Childhood Curriculum as well as the Creative Curriculum are used as guides in planning and implementing a rich, developmentally appropriate curriculum. The teachers and the Director meet frequently to evaluate curriculum goals and ensure that the progression of skills and concepts is developmentally appropriate and meeting the needs of the children in each class. Parents having questions concerning curriculum should plan with the teacher to observe in their child’s classroom. Children put great effort into building social skills, sharing, helping friends, experimenting in dramatic play or participating in other activities that he is not able to relate to you. Observation is the best means for understanding and assessing developmental progress.
